Career Coaching … Your new Future

Have You Lost Your Passion for Your Career?

Career Coaching may be for you if:

  • you are feeling “stuck”
  • you start getting anxious on Sunday nights
  • the stress is getting to you
  • you wonder what your life purpose is
  • your work bores you

If you have any of these feelings, you are ready for Career Coaching! My careers have switched so often, and in so many directions (from academics to business, from sales to management, and then to self-employment), that it is no wonder that I gravitated to Career Coaching.

I finally got smart about eight years ago when I hired my first Life Coach. I needed to make sense of all this career jumping. What did it all mean and where could it lead? What career would really make me happy (and earn me a living!)?

Well, together with my coach, we figured it all out, through the same process I now use to assist people, like you, who want to know what’s next. With career coaching, part of the discovery process consisted of unpeeling “layers of the onion” to show me what I truly enjoyed doing, not what I should be doing that I was educated for or had the acquired skills for.

Today, many clients come to me for job change; others come to do a lot of exploration to discover their “purpose” in life and what they can do to build a life around it.

What is the career coaching process I use for exploration? It consists of some or all of the following techniques and tools:

  • Values discovery
  • Life balance questions
  • Assessments
  • A “perfect job” profile
  • A “friends questionnaire” which helps you see your skills in others’ eyes
  • An uncovering of your “gremlins” - those inner voices that hold you back
  • A strategy and timeline
  • Weekly goals and action steps
  • Resume evaluation
  • Job market search suggestions
  • “Making the present perfect” - a technique to help you enjoy your life as you go through this process of exploration (yes, even while you are still stuck in that burn-out job!)
  • How long does career coaching take? It has been as short as two months (that’s quick!) and as long as nine months. All the while, clients learn more about themselves and what they really want out of life.

Are you ready to step into the next phase of your life, with a happier life and a career you enjoy? Call or email me now for a free sample session!

Want to know how some of my clients felt about the coaching process? Here’s Bob’s story:

Bob was near the top of his career working for a very large corporation, but something was wrong. He had been just going through the motions for several years. The pay was good, but he was totally unmotivated in his work. When he first called me he didn’t know what he wanted; he just knew he was unhappy. We started with a lot of questions - what talents did he have? What kinds of activities brought a smile to his face? What were his greatest accomplishments? We determined that his core values included independence, entrepreneurship, creativity, accomplishment and initiative - none of which was reflected in his current job. No wonder he was unhappy! We explored lots of possibilities and set up a strategic plan with a timeline. What did he end up doing? He bought in to a small business where he could be more in control of the day to day work process, he could be creative in growing the company, and he could exercise his independence and entrepreneurial spirit! And, he decided that it was finally OK to have fun!

You see, we work on more than just career change; we work on changing your whole life to one that is fulfilling and more expressive of who you really are.

Here is another example from career coaching:

“I’m pleased to report that now I have a wonderful new job! You were right, the universe provided for me when I was ready to receive. It’s amazing to me what a great fit this company is for me. They were looking for someone “Analytical”, “Creative” and “Client-Service Oriented”. Perfect! They are a small company made up of very bright people. There is also an amazing company culture - everyone really works well together and pitches in to help everyone else out. I think that it will be a great opportunity for me to grow and learn and contribute. It meets with so many of my core values. Also - it’s about a 15% pay increase from my previous position (in this economy, can you believe it???????!!!!!!!!!) I feel really lucky to have landed where I’ve landed, and to have been able to take those two months off to re-energize. Thank you so much for helping me to get there! The coaching process has been phenomenal. It has provided some really concrete tools/support to help me achieve my goals. Melissa - California
